St Augustine , Florida
St. Augustine is a charming old town where you can still see the early Spanish influences as well as the 'old south' and Flagler's expansion in the late 19th century.
Walked around the old fort Castillo de San Marcos and the somewhat touristy but charming old town. Admired the craftmanship in Flagler's grand old hotels and college. I reckon the best is just walking around the beautiful old mansions south of the touristy area on narrow and quiet little streets.
After tasting the local muscadine wines from San Sebastian winery we headed to Gainesville. Being a university town there's a nice vibe with cafes, restaurants and pubs. Drifted down the Ichetucknee River on a tube, explored the pretty odd micro-climate of the nearby sinkhole called Devil's Millhopper and wrapped up with a good hike in Paynes Prairie.
