Key West, Florida
In January 2009 we did a weekend trip to the keys. We had clear but surprisingly cold and windy weather.
We stayed in Chelsea House Bed & Breakfast which is coveniently located for walks in the neigbourhood. After some initial rather irritating trouble with the key-box lock upon late arrival the place was alright and a good place to meet fellow travellers over breakfast.
Key West is a town that is great for walking, something I otherwise miss in Florida. Small picturesque houses and cafes and shops. Maybe a bit too touristy at times but it still has some old world charm.
We also checked out the Mel Fisher museum with all the great treasures recovered from wrecks, something I read a lot about as a little kid. We had planned a trip to Marquesas Keys but the trips were cancelled due to the wind and rough seas so it'll have to wait until next time.
On the way home we made some stops along the scenic road and went to the beach in the refreshingly undeveloped Bahia Honda Key.
