San Francisco, USA

First weekend in June 2007 we went over to San Francisco to attend my Casey's and Nicola's wedding.

Took the Friday off and did a tour of the bay area with Vanny first. Started out going north over the Golden Gate bridge on 101 and taking the Mill Valley exit for a morning coffee. Then on over the hill to Muir Woods with the amazing red wood trees.

Continued over the hill to join Route 1 (also known as Shoreline Highway) up the coast. Beautiful road that goes through several old fishing communities with charming little cafes, restaurants and pubs. We stopped in Point Reyes Station for mussles and clam chowder and a pint to strengten us for the trip ahead.

Cut over the hills to 101 again to get to Sonoma Hwy down into Wine Country. Stopped for a few wineries along the road tasting wines and stocking up. Good fun but if you're serious about testing through the wines you better take a bus tour I think. Slightly tipsy but hopefully under any DUI limit we headed on south.

Drove 680 down to charming Walnut Creek for a rest stop and some refreshments. Then on to Mount Diablo just outside Walnut Creek. Drove up the south side along the winding roads. Park website and a good map.

Exited the park along South Gate Road and cut over the I-680 to posh Danville for dinner at the excellent Kane Sushi place.

After filling our tummies we headed back to SF. Great day trip and you never stop being amazed by the diversity of sights and microclimates in the bay area, an awesome place indeed!

Saturday was the big day. Ceremony in Presidio Chapel. Great location in the very quiet in the park and with a view of Alcatraz as a bonus. Then on to a reception with dinner and dance for the evening. Best wishes and thanks to Casey and Nicola.
