Kuching, Sarawak Malaysia
The last weekend of January we went on a weekend trip to Kuching, Sabah Malaysia, together with my old friend Gustaf Holmqvist. Using Air Asia we got some cheap tickets from Johor Bahru and being simple two hour flight this makes for a viable weekend trip out of Singapore.
You can take the bus from Kranji MRT station via the Senai Airport Lounge, located central in Johor Bahru, for a very reasonable price to get to the airport.
In Kuching we stayed at the Telang Usan Hotel which was good value for the clean rooms and friendly staff. We walked around the city for a day, taking in the museums (most notably the Sarawak Museum) and the good atmosphere. It's a rather small place, so it's easy to get around by walking or a short taxi ride.
The second day we went for a day trip to Bako National Park. The trip there is a pretty good adventure in itself with a nice boat ride beeing the only way into the partk. We had a good hike into the very dry highland part of the park.
